The Torey Pine grows only along the Southern California coast for about eight miles south of the Soledad River near Del Mar and about one mile inland, as well as on Santa Rosa Island. Patrick chose this dramatic landscape to showcase this unusual tree. This particular species grows nowhere else in the world and continues to thrive with some exhibiting great age. This image appeared on the cover of the February 1940 issue of Westways magazine.
