"There are so many wonderful elements in this painting by my mother, Dorothea Cooke. The dismay on the woman's face (what has she heard?). The wonderful color blue rug. The poor little boy trying to figure out the situation. The man obviously ready to leave in his wool overcoat with the two bags on the floor. And the limp arm just around the corner. Whatever has been said, why is the unseen person, presumably the child's mother, not reacting as the others have. This is a favorite of mine."
