"The summer I was eight, Dad was invited to teach art classes in Klamath Falls, Oregon. I took horseriding lessons in Connecticut because they promised us if we arrived by July 4th I could ride in the rodeo! Well, my dad, mom and I drove cross-country and arrived just in time, and our hosts `Bal', Helen and Lisa Ballentine took us to the gate. Before my father knew what had happened, here was his young daughter holding onto the saddle as Bal roared on his horse into the ring with the rope to my horse in his hands. My father was so shocked that he never took one picture! The ranch country in Oregon was so beautiful that Dad his friend and famous illustrator John Gannam painted enthusiastically those two months. A great time for our family."
