Frank Ackerman (1933-1986) Born in Los Angeles, Frank Ackerman was a watercolorist, illustrator and graphic artist and also taught watercolor painting. He was born in Los Angeles and studied at the Chouinard Art Institute where he began painting with watercolors and later exhibited with the California Watercolor Society. He spent several years in the army and then studied with Rex Brandt and Ed Reep.

After the mid 1950s, he worked as an illustrator and graphic artist. A commission by the Navy led to travel in New Zealand and the South Pole, where he did a series of paintings for the Naval History Art Collection. In 1970, he was president of the California Water Color Society.
