Autumnal Equinox Helitropes, 2017, an original watercolor painting by Carolyn Lord.
This was painted during the Mendocino Open Paint Out. The sunflowers were hovering over late-season raspberries in overcast morning light, typical of the Northern California coast. I had done an 11” x 15” watercolor of this scene 2 days before, on September 19, 2017 and decided to return to the motif and create a larger, more complex composition. - Carolyn Lord
Painted September 20, 2017
